Glicerine suppositories №5 Composition:
active substance: glycerol;

1 suppository contains 0.88 g or 2.63 g of glycerin;

excipients: sodium carbonate decahydrate; stearic acid; macrogol 400.

Suppositories.

Basic physical and chemical properties: suppositories are translucent, almost colorless or with a slight yellowish tinge, with a smearing surface, hygroscopic. The presence of a funnel-shaped depression, an air rod, opacification of suppositories, a slight softening of the surface layer, the presence of condensation on the package is allowed.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

In its pure form, glycerin has an irritating effect, which disappears with the addition of water (up to 30-50%), petroleum jelly, lanolin. When injected into the rectum, suppositories have a slight irritating effect on the mucous membrane and stimulate defecation by reflex.

When used in the form of rectal suppositories, glycerin facilitates the excretion of feces.

The effect of the drug occurs within 5-30 minutes.

Pharmacokinetics.

After rectal administration, absorption is weak, the stay in the body is short-term. Glycerin practically does not enter the systemic circulation and does not show systemic side effects.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.
Constipation of various etiologies (when the use of oral medications is impossible).

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Intestinal obstruction, renal failure, appendicitis, bleeding, diarrhea, acute hemorrhoids, anal fissures, inflammatory diseases, rectal tumors, undiagnosed abdominal pain, hemorrhoid rectocolitis.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.
The drug can interact with other drugs.

Glycerin suppositories can weaken the effect of other drugs that are taken rectally. It is necessary to adhere to a several hour interval.

Features of the application.
It is not recommended to use suppositories for a course of treatment longer than 1 week.

Use with caution in case of impaired renal function, allergies, nausea, vomiting.

Hands should be thoroughly washed before and after using suppositories.
