Maalox tablets composition
active substances: aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide;
1 tablet contains aluminum hydroxide 400 mg, magnesium hydroxide 400 mg;
Excipients: mannitol (E 421), sorbitol (E 420), sodium saccharin (E 954), peppermint flavor, magnesium stearate, confectionery sugar with starch, sucrose.
This medicine protects the mucous membranes of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.
In studies of the use of a single dose in vitro by the method of Rosset – Rice acid-neutralizing ability was 20 mEq H + in the package.
The drug is not radiopaque.
Maalox tablets is used in the treatment of acute and chronic gastritis in the acute stage, with normal or increased production of gastric secretions. It is also used as part of the complex treatment of hiatal hernia, reflux esophagitis, ulcerative and erosive lesions of the stomach and duodenum at the stage of exacerbation, discomfort in the epigastric region and dyspeptic disorders caused by a violation of the diet, intake of aggressive medications also coffee.
Severe renal insufficiency (because this drug contains magnesium), hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Alzheimer’s disease, habitual constipation, chronic diarrhea, severe abdominal pain of unspecified origin, hypophosphatemia.
Maalox is not used in the treatment of children under 15 years of age.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
In these periods, this tool should be used only when the benefits to the pregnant woman outweigh the risks to the fetus.
Method of application and dosage
Use for the treatment of adults and children over 15 years of age.
Adults and children over 15 years – 1 – 2 tablets in case of heartburn or acid reflux. Method of application – oral. The tablet should be swallowed or chewed completely. The maximum number of doses per day is 6 doses. Do not take more than 12 tablets a day.
The duration of treatment without consulting a doctor should not exceed 10 days.
When taking Maalox tablets in doses significantly exceeding therapeutic ones, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea may occur. When treating an acute overdose with the drug, the patient is prescribed an abundant drink, since the excretion of magnesium and aluminum is carried out mainly in the urine.
With prolonged use of the drug, patients develop allergic reactions, dyspeptic disorders and hypophosphatemia, which may be accompanied by softening or destruction of bone tissue.
Storage conditions and periods
It must be stored out of the reach of children and protected from light. Shelf life of tablets – 5 years.
