The drug Mezaton is used for such indications as: iridocyclitis; complex therapy of accommodation spasm in childhood; anterior uveitis; irritation with dry eye syndrome; a decrease in the activity of the exudative process of the iris.
active substance: phenylephrine;
1 ml of solution contains phenylephrine hydrochloride in terms of 100% of the substance – 25 mg;
Excipients: decamethoxine, macrogol (polyethylene glycol 400), disodium edetate (Trilon B), purified water.
Mezaton eye drops are intended for use in ophthalmology, as cycloplegic and mydriatic agents.
The action of the drug promotes dilation of the pupil and a partial decrease in intraocular pressure. The maximum dilation of the pupil occurs 10-60 minutes after the instillation of drops and lasts for 4-6 hours It has a pronounced antihyperemic and decongestant effect.
Indications for use

Also, drops are shown as an auxiliary diagnostic tool for suspected asthenopia, angle-closure glaucoma, adhesions in the back of the eyeball.
Mezaton is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, glaucoma, hepatic porphyria, violations of the integrity of the eyeball, disorders of the cardiovascular system in the elderly, a constant increase in IOP, excessive tearing, increased, unstable activity of the endocrine system.
The drug is used in pediatric practice, drops are used for premature babies with caution and only as directed by a doctor.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of Mezaton is permissible only with a doctor’s recommendation if the expected benefit to the mother is significantly higher than the potential risk to the child or fetus.
Mode of application
Mezaton drops are intended for topical use.
For diagnostics, 1 drop of a 2.5% solution is instilled into the conjunctival sac before the examination for 15-20 minutes, if necessary, another drop is instilled after an hour.
For therapeutic purposes, drops are used in a dose of 1 drop in each affected eye 3 times a day until the symptoms of the disease disappear and until complete recovery.
The duration of use is determined individually by the doctor, depending on the severity of the disease.
An overdose of the drug is accompanied by the following symptoms: reflex bradycardia, a significant increase in blood pressure.
The use of drops can cause various side effects: eye pain, burning, reactive hyperemia, irritation, blurred vision, allergic reactions, lacrimation, discomfort, reactive miosis, increased intraocular pressure in patients with angle-closure or narrow-angle glaucoma.
Also possible: arrhythmia, tachycardia, reflex bradycardia, arterial hypertension, occlusion of coronary arteries, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, allergic conjunctivitis, hypersensitivity, headache, dizziness, agitation, tremor, insomnia, paresthesia, paresthesia, pallor dyspeptic symptoms.
In premature infants, the use of the drug can cause periorbital pallor.
