The drug is prescribed for the treatment of angina pectoris. Also, the remedy is indicated in such conditions: left ventricular failure (acute form, complex treatment); myocardial infarction (during rehabilitation); pulmonary edema; heart attack (acute, intravenous administration is recommended); obstruction of the retinal artery; prevention of angina attacks (before physical exertion).
Composition: 1 can contains 1% nitroglycerin 8.0 g, ethanol, propylene glycol.
The medicine is available in the form of an aerosol of 10 g in cans. One package contains 1 can.
Nitromint belongs to the group of short-acting vasodilators. Effective in relieving angina attacks. The leading component of the drug is nitroglycerin, which has a pronounced vasodilator effect aimed at stabilizing myocardial oxygen and blood supply needs. Improves microcirculation of the endocardial regions of the heart muscle. The effectiveness of the drug is due to its ability to act on the guanylate cyclase enzymes, releasing nitric oxide, which leads to relaxation of smooth muscles. At the same time, the relaxing effect of the drug affects the muscles of the bronchi, vessel walls, gastrointestinal tract, urinary and biliary tract. Due to the action of the drug, blood flow to the right atrium decreases, coronary blood flow is evenly distributed, the development of pain syndrome is inhibited, vascular tone is eliminated, and in general, the load on the heart is reduced.
The absorption of the drug is 100% when absorbed from the mucous membrane. Already 5 minutes after application, its maximum concentration in the blood is noted, when interacting with proteins in an amount of 60%. The therapeutic effect begins in 2 minutes and lasts about half an hour. Excretion occurs through the kidneys in the form of metabolites.
Indications for use
Nitromint is prescribed to treat angina pectoris. Also, the remedy is indicated in such conditions:
- left ventricular failure (acute form, complex treatment);
- myocardial infarction (during rehabilitation);
- pulmonary edema;
- heart attack (acute, intravenous administration is recommended);
- obstruction of the retinal artery;
- prevention of angina attacks (before physical exertion).
The drug is contraindicated for use in the following conditions:
- a sharp decrease in blood pressure and deterioration of blood supply (collapse);
- failure of the cardiovascular system (cardiogenic shock);
- left ventricular failure with low filling pressure;
- angina pectoris caused by cardiomyopathy;
- increased sensitivity to drugs containing nitrites and nitrates;
- traumatic brain injury.
The use of the drug is not recommended for persons with renal and hepatic insufficiency.
The use of the product under the age of 18 is not recommended.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation must be agreed with the attending physician. The agent has no teratogenic effect on the fetus of experimental animals. Its effect on the human fetus is unknown. There is no data on whether the drug passes into breast milk, therefore, feeding should be interrupted while using the drug.
Mode of application
Nitromint aerosol contains 180 doses. 1 dosage is 0.4 mg. It is applied by injection under the tongue area without inhaling. At the same time, the can with the medicine must be held vertically. One press on the cylinder valve equals one dose of the drug – 0.4 mg.
In acute attacks of angina pectoris, it is necessary to apply the aerosol 1-2 times. After 5 minutes, you can repeat the procedure. In general, the drug can be injected no more than 3 times. This is enough to relieve the attack. If relief does not come, qualified help is needed.
With left ventricular failure and pulmonary edema, the dosage is 4 injections. The dosage can be repeated after 10 minutes. In this case, clinical control over the patient’s condition and his blood pressure is important. Transfer to intravenous administration of the drug is possible.
For elderly patients, the use of the drug can be fraught with a sharp decrease in pressure, up to fainting. It is recommended to use the drug in this category of patients in a sitting position.
The consequences of using excessive doses of the drug can be expressed by the development of the following conditions:
- a sharp drop in pressure;
- tachycardia (reflex);
- redness of the face;
- upset stool;
- rapid breathing.
In cases of mild overdose with the drug, it is necessary to transfer the patient to a prone position and raise his legs. In more severe cases, when metmoglobinemia occurs, you should take a dose of vitamin C (1 g), take general measures to eliminate intoxication, including hemodialysis.
When using the drug, the following undesirable conditions may appear:
- temperature rise;
- lowering blood pressure;
- stomach pain;
- dry mouth;
- slowing down the reaction;
- skin rashes;
- burning sensation under the tongue;
- decreased vision clarity.
When storing Nitromint, remember that it is explosive, keep away from heat, fire, direct sunlight. Do not use near fire or while smoking. Empty aerosol cans are also explosive. It is necessary to store the drug away from children at a temperature of 15-25 degrees.
