Arterial hypertension. Chronic stable angina. Vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal’s angina).
Norvask composition and form of release
Made in tablets. The main active ingredient of the drug is amlodipine 5 mg.
Norvasc is used independently and as part of the complex treatment of hypertension, as well as stable and vasomotor angina pectoris.
Norvasc is not used to treat patients with hypersensitivity to amlodipine, arterial hypotension below 90 mm Hg. Art., with obstruction of the outflow tract of the left ventricle (including severe aortic stenosis), hemodynamically unstable heart failure, which arose after myocardial infarction.
Particular care should be taken when prescribing the drug if the patient has chronic heart failure of non-ischemic etiology, severe liver disorders, aortic stenosis, mitral valve stenosis, unstable angina pectoris, obstructive hypertrophic myocardiopathy, acute myocardial infarction, sick sinus syndrome, arterial disease. In addition, it is necessary to carefully weigh the pros and cons, while prescribing Norvask with inhibitors or inducers of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme.
The drug is not used in the treatment of patients under 18 years of age.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
At the moment, the safety of using Norvasc for the treatment of pregnant women has not been confirmed by clinical studies, in this regard, the appointment of the drug in this category of patients is possible only for vital indicators.
It is not known whether amlodipine is excreted in breast milk. However, it is reliably known that most other dihydropyridine derivatives are found in the breast milk of a woman, and therefore, if it is necessary to prescribe the drug during lactation, the question of stopping feeding is decided.
Method of administration and dosage
Norvasc is taken orally, once a day, with a sufficient amount of water.
When treating arterial hypertension or angina pectoris, treatment begins with taking 5 mg of the drug. In the future, if necessary, the dose of the drug can be increased to 10 mg.
A standard regimen is used when treating elderly patients.
If Norvasc is used for patients with impaired renal or liver function, no dose adjustment is made and the drug is prescribed in a standard dosage.
In case of an overdose of Norvask in patients, a pronounced decrease in blood pressure is observed, and reflex tachycardia may develop. When taking Norvasc in high doses, there is a possibility of a significant decrease in blood pressure, the development of hypotonic shock and death.
To eliminate undesirable phenomena, the patient is prescribed the intake of enerosorbents, correct symptomatic treatment.
In some patients, when taking Norvask, there is a development of heartbeat, an excessive decrease in pressure, the occurrence of peripheral edema, and a violation of the heart rhythm. It is also possible that various allergic reactions, seizures, arthralgia, headaches, increased fatigue, depression, insomnia, abdominal pains, pancreatitis, hepatitis, rhinitis, shortness of breath, double vision and eye pains occur.
Storage conditions and periods
Norvask is stored for no more than 4 years in a dark and dry place.
