The main active ingredient, interferon alfa-2b, is a sterile highly purified stable drug that is intended to be administered parenterally (bypassing the gastrointestinal tract).
This type of interferon is a water-soluble protein, whose molecular weight is determined in the region of 19 thousand 300 units. The substance is obtained by acting on bacteria that have genes for human leukocytes, which have the ability to encode the synthesis of interferons.
After its administration, interferon alfa-2-bi has an antiproliferative effect, attracting both cell cultures and xenografts of human neoplasms. It has a powerful immunomodulatory effect. It binds to cell membranes, initiating a chain of reactions inside cells, inducing some enzymes.
