Main active ingredients: phenazone, lidocaine hydrochloride.
Auxiliary components: sodium thiosulfate, glycerin, ethanol (96%), purified water.
Available in the form of a solution for instillation in the ears. It goes on sale packaged in bottles with a dropper tip, 15 ml each.
1 g of the drug contains 40 mg of phenazone and 10 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride.
This drug Otix belongs to the group of combined topical preparations used in otology.
The effect of the application is due to the properties of the main active ingredients – lidocaine, phenazone.
The drug produces anti-inflammatory and local anesthetic effects.
Lidocaine has such a mechanism of action, due to which it has the ability to block sodium channels. Such properties make it possible to stabilize the neuronal membrane, helping to reduce its permeability, and arresting the ability to conduct impulses. As a result, it has a quick analgesic effect.
Phenazone has an anti-inflammatory effect, nitrofurazone has an antibacterial effect.
Due to the fact that the drug contains several active components, they complement each other, produce an increased effect from its use.
This drug is used for local symptomatic treatment and pain relief in inflammatory diseases of the middle ear with an intact tympanic membrane.
In particular, they are used to treat:
- otitis media (in the acute phase);
- edematous viral otitis media (postinfluenza);
- barotraumatic otitis media.
A decrease in pain syndrome is noted within 5 minutes after application and completely relieves pain in 15-30 minutes.
Not applicable if the patient has hypersensitivity (allergy) to one of the components that make up the drug.
It is not used for infectious diseases of the inner ear, as well as for injuries of the eardrum.
It is used in pediatrics for children from 1 month.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Treatment of pregnant and lactating women with this drug is not recommended, however, it is possible, if indicated.
The need for an appointment is determined by the attending physician, based on the benefit / harm ratio.
Method of administration and dosage
The exact dosage of Otix is determined by the attending physician.
Adults and children (starting from infancy) are recommended to instill 4 drops of the drug into the external ear canal 2-3 times a day.
The duration of the course of treatment cannot be longer than 10 days.
In order to prevent discomfort as a result of contact of the skin of the ear canal with a cold solution, you should first warm the dropper bottle in your hand before using the medicine.
The dropper bottle must be carefully closed after each use.
Do not touch the pipette tip of the external auditory canal to maintain the sterility of the solution.
Before prescribing the drug, it is necessary to check the integrity of the tympanic membrane. If the eardrum is perforated for any reason, the use of the drug can cause it to come into contact with the structures of the middle ear, which will lead to adverse reactions in these tissues.
If the drug is used in accordance with the instructions, an overdose is unlikely.
In case of accidental ingestion, you should rinse the stomach, take sorbents.
The drug is usually well tolerated and rarely causes side effects.
