Local treatment of certain types of pus discharge from the ear: condition after surgery on the middle ear; isolated purulent lesions of the eardrum; exacerbation of chronic otitis media, including perforation of the eardrum.



Otofa composition and form of release
Available in ear drops. The main active ingredient of the drug is sodium refampin.

Pharmacological properties
The main active ingredient of Otofa ear drops is rifampicin, which is a semi-synthetic antibacterial agent belonging to the rifampicin group and has a pronounced antibacterial effect.

Otofa are used to treat:

  • acute otitis externa;
  • chronic otitis externa;
  • perforation of the tympanic membrane;
  • middle acute otitis media;
  • chronic otitis media.

The use of Otofa is relevant if it is necessary to prescribe antibacterial treatment in the postoperative period after surgical treatment of the middle ear.

Otofa is not prescribed if there is information in the patient’s history that he is prone to the development of allergic rhinitis. Also, it is better to refuse its appointment in case of individual hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the drug.

It is used in pediatrics without age restrictions.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
The lack of clinical data on the effect on the fetus does not allow its use for the treatment of pregnant women. When prescribing the drug during lactation, you should consider the need for a temporary cessation of breastfeeding.

Method of administration and dosage
Otofa ear drops are intended for topical use only. Before use, the ear drops must be held in the hand for a while to warm them up to body temperature. It is strictly forbidden to use cold drops. Otof drops are used for insertion into the external auditory canal. For children, 3 drops are instilled into the external auditory canal, and for adults – 5 drops 3 r / s. When injecting the drug, the patient’s head should be tilted to the side. Duration of treatment is 7 days. The decision to extend the course of treatment can only be made by a doctor.

Due to low adsorption, drug overdose is unlikely. Until recently, there were no negative reactions to the use of the drug. If during the treatment with the drug you have any negative consequences, then you should immediately seek the advice of your doctor.

Side effects
Pereporation treatment is not associated with the development of any clinically significant manifestations, due to the fact that it is not actually absorbed into the bloodstream. However, some patients with hypersensitivity to the drug may experience various local allergic reactions, manifested by itching, burning sensation and a rash in the area of ​​the external auditory canal.

Storage conditions and periods
To maintain their therapeutic potential, it is recommended to store them in their original packaging in a cool and dark place. The shelf life of the drug is 3 years. It is strictly forbidden to use the drug Otofa after the expiration of the shelf life, since the use of medicines with an expired shelf life may be not only ineffective, but also hazardous to health.
