Acute and chronic urinary tract infections in the acute stage caused by bacteria sensitive to pipemidic acid, including pyelonephritis, urethritis, cystitis, prostatitis, and pyelitis.
Palin composition and form of release
The active ingredient is pipemidine trihydrate (pipemidic acid), excipients, including starch, magnesium stereate. Produced in capsule form.
Palin is an antibacterial drug used in urology and gynecology. It is used to prevent recurrent infections, as well as in the treatment of acute or chronic diseases of the urinary tract. In addition to the above, it is prescribed for complex therapy for the treatment of vaginal infections in women.
The drug, which belongs to the group of quinolones, has a pronounced bactericidal (in low dosages) and bacteriostatic (in high dosages) action. Pipemidic acid has the ability to inhibit the bacterial enzyme DNA topoisomerase II. Effectively fights against gram-negative, some gram-positive, entero and other bacteria.
Resistance to pipemidic acid develops over a very long period of time.
Contraindicated in the treatment of children under 15 years of age, as well as in hypersensitivity to quinolones and acetylsalicylic acid. It is used with caution in epilepsy, a predisposition to seizures, porphyria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, renal failure.
It has been used in pediatrics since the age of 15.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Method of administration and dosage
Palin is taken orally at regular intervals. During therapy, a large amount of water is taken for increased diuresis. Usually – 2 caps. twice a day. Treatment lasts 7-10 days, if indicated, the doctor may prolong the therapy. The maximum duration of treatment is up to 6 months, with recurrent infections of the urinary system, treatment may be longer.
A significant excess of the dosage can cause dizziness, vomiting, headache, nausea, tremors of the arms and legs, confusion, convulsions. No antidote has yet been identified. Shows intensive gastrointestinal lavage, hemodialysis. Convulsive states are stopped with diazepam.
When taking drugs containing pipemidic acid, adverse reactions from the gastrointestinal tract are possible – nausea, decreased appetite, gastralgic phenomena, a feeling of heartburn, diarrhea, flatulence, pseudomembranous colitis. Symptoms of eosinophilia, hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia were less common. The nervous system can react with sleep disturbances, emotional lability, convulsions, tremors.
The development of superinfection, false-positive reaction to glucose in urine, acute arthropathy, tendinitis was infrequently noted.
In hypersensitivity reactions, cases of allergic skin rashes, edema, and in exceptional cases anaphylaxis were noted.
Storage conditions and periods
Palin is stored for up to 5 years at temperatures up to 15-25 ° C.
