Pentasa (mesalazine) rectal suppositories 1000 mg. №28


Tablets and powder for oral administration are prescribed for a course of therapy for mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. Treatment of ulcerative proctitis is most effective with rectal suppositories.



Pentasa composition
The main active ingredient is mesazalin.

Release form
It is produced in the form of suppositories.

Suppositories for rectal administration are equipped with 28 rubber fingertips. One suppository contains 1000 mg of active active ingredient.

Pharmacological properties
Pentasa belongs to a number of intestinal anti-inflammatory drugs. The drug has no systemic effect, but only affects the inflamed areas of the intestine.
Reduces the synthesis of inflammatory mediators, reduces the amount of foods that affect tissue damage and contribute to their further destruction.
Mesalazine works to prevent colorectal cancer that occurs after ulcerative colitis and also breaks the bonds that lead to cancer due to colitis.
The drug is mainly absorbed in the small intestine and enters the blood plasma after 15 minutes.

An ulcer of the stomach and duodenal ulcer, a violation of the functioning of blood coagulation, serious disturbances in the functioning of the liver is also a contraindication to taking the drug.
Excessive sensitivity to mesazaline or any other component of the drug, intolerance to salicylates is an obstacle to taking this drug.

Not used to treat children under 2 years of age. In tablet form, it is used for children from 6 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
In the first trimester, for serious medical reasons, taking Pentasa is acceptable. If the woman’s condition is satisfactory, then a month before giving birth, the drug is stopped.
Breastfeeding and the course of the drug are incompatible. Breastfeeding will have to be interrupted when this drug is prescribed.

Mode of application
The dosage and duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.
The recommended daily dose is 4 g for enteritis, ulcerative colitis or as a maintenance agent for Crohn’s disease. The dose for maintenance therapy in ulcerative colitis is 2 grams. The daily dose of washes is divided into several doses.
For the treatment of children, dosages are prescribed based on body weight – 30 mg per kilogram of weight.
Before the introduction of rectal suppositories, the intestines are emptied with an enema.
1-2 candles are injected per day (one at a time), moistened with water before use and putting on fingertips for hygiene.
If the candle is removed on its own, the procedure should be repeated after 10 minutes.

There is not enough information about drug overdose.
However, theoretically, symptoms such as dehydration can appear – hyperventilation of the lungs, hypoglycemia and an acid-base imbalance in the body.
Any drug overdose requires hospitalization, since there is no specific antidote.
In the first hours after oral administration of excessive doses, the stomach is washed.

Adverse reactions
Patients often note the occurrence of allergic reactions, a feeling of heart sinking, shortness of breath, pain in the sternum, pressure surges.
The gastrointestinal tract reacts with system disorders, stool disorders, nausea, vomiting.
Sometimes dizziness, impaired sense of spatial orientation, tingling in the limbs, emotional depression are manifested.
Violations of the urinary system of the body are possible, up to the development of anuria.
Less often, with the course of Pentasa, hair loss and reduced tearing may occur.
When analyzing blood, one can observe the suppression of hematopoiesis germs, a violation of coagulation.

Storage conditions
Store Pentasa for 3 years from the date of manufacture.
Regardless of the form of the drug, it is stored in a dark, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C, away from children.
