During in vitro studies, it was revealed that the main active ingredient docosanol can affect the ability to fusion of viruses and cell membranes. As a consequence, intracellular uptake and replication (reproduction) of the virus is suppressed.
According to the results of in vitro studies, scientists were able to establish that cells under the influence of docosanol have the ability to resist the process of infection with lipid-enveloping viruses such as HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus type I).
