Composition Regulax picosulphate
Main active ingredient: sodium picosulfate.
Excipients included in the preparation: propylene glycol, sorbitol, purified water.
1 ml (20 drops) contains 7.5 mg of sodium picosulfate.
Available in the form of a solution for oral administration, in 20 ml vials.
This drug Regulax picosulphate belongs to a group of drugs used in gastroenterology as a laxative.
The main active ingredient of the drug is sodium picosulfate. This substance, which has laxative properties, belongs to the triarylmethane group.
Due to the metabolic processes that occur after the drug enters the body in the large intestine, due to its action, the absorption of fluids is slowed down, and the production of water and the release of electrolytes increases.
As a result, there is a softening of feces, which also increases their volume, produce additional stimulation of peristalsis in the intestine.
Sodium picosulfate has low absorption, little absorbed when it enters the intestine. Some partial absorption occurs only after the bacterial degradation of the substance occurs. Absorption occurs when the drug enters the colon, then conjugation occurs and then the drug is excreted with the help of the intestine along with the secreted bile.
This drug Regulax picosulphate is used to treat:
- other conditions that require easier bowel movement (bowel movements).
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Also contraindicated for:
- intestinal obstruction;
- bowel obstruction;
- severe dehydration;
- acute diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including appendicitis;
- acute abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting.
When taken simultaneously with diuretics and adrenocorticosteroids, the risk of electrolyte imbalance may increase.
Should not be used in conjunction with antibiotics. they can weaken the effect of the laxative.
It is not used in pediatrics until the age of 4 years.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is undesirable for the treatment of pregnant women – only with serious indications for this.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.
Method of administration and dosage
The drug is intended for oral administration, the best time to take is in the evening.
The laxative effect occurs 10-12 hours after taking the drug.
- adults and children over 10 years old – 14-27 drops once a day, at night;
- children after reaching 4 years of age and up to 10 years – 7-14 drops, also at night.
Start with the minimum dosage, gradually increasing it if necessary.
A drug for the treatment of children can only be prescribed as directed by a doctor.
The duration of use is limited to 10 days – this drug, like other laxatives, should not be used systemically unless the cause of constipation is established.
Taking too long can cause an electrolyte imbalance, fluid balance in the body, and a lack of potassium in the body.
Overdose cases have not been recorded at the moment.
Excessive intake of the drug causes:
- excessive liquefaction of feces, diarrhea;
- spasms in the intestines;
- a clinically significant loss of electrolytes, potassium;
- chronic diarrhea.
Symptomatic treatment is recommended – rinse the stomach, induce vomiting, ensure sufficient fluid intake into the body, take enterosorbents, antispasmodics, astringents.
The drug is usually well tolerated. Side effects may occur in the form of:
- hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema;
- rash, allergic urticaria, itching;
- abdominal cramps, diarrhea, flatulence;
- discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract.
Storage conditions and periods
Expiration date – up to 5 years from the production date indicated on the package. The shelf life after the first opening of the bottle is reduced to 6 months.
The storage temperature should not exceed 25 ° C.
