Toxic liver lesions: for the supportive treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory liver disease or cirrhosis. Drugs used in liver diseases, lipotropic substances. Hepatotropic drugs.
Silibor 35 (silymarin) coated tablets 35 mg. №30
active substance: silymarin;
1 tablet contains milk thistle dry extract (22–27:1, extractant – acetone 95%), which is equivalent to 35 mg of silymarin;
auxiliary substances: potato starch; sodium starch glycolate (type A); calcium stearate; lactose, monohydrate; hypromellose; titanium dioxide (E 171); FCF yellow west (E 110).
The main physicochemical properties: tablets covered with a film shell, from orange to brownish-orange in color, with a biconvex surface. Spots are allowed on the surface of the tablets. The cross section shows two layers.
Drugs used in liver diseases, lipotropic substances. Hepatotropic drugs.
ATX code А05В А03.
The drug belongs to the group of hepatoprotective drugs. The drug contains the active component of silymarin, obtained from the fruits of the milk thistle plant. Silymarin is a mixture of four isomers of flavonolignans: silibinin, isosilibinin, silydianin and silycristine. The drug has a hepatoprotective and antitoxic effect.
The drug inhibits the penetration of toxins into liver cells (shown in the poison of the pale toadstool), and also causes physical and chemical stabilization of the cell membrane of hepatocytes, limits or prevents the loss of soluble components (including transaminases) of liver cells.
The antioxidant effect of the drug is due to the interaction of silibinin with free radicals in the liver and their transformation into less toxic compounds. Thus, the process of lipid peroxidation is interrupted and further destruction of cellular structures does not occur; toxins are neutralized physiologically.
Silymarin stimulates the synthesis of proteins (structural and functional) and phospholipids in affected liver cells (normalizing lipid metabolism), stabilizes their cell membranes, binds free radicals (antioxidant action), thus protecting liver cells from harmful effects and promoting their recovery. The clinical effect of the drug is manifested in the improvement of the general condition of patients with liver diseases, reduction of subjective complaints (such as weakness, a feeling of heaviness in the right hypochondrium, loss of appetite, skin itching, vomiting).
Laboratory indicators improve: the activity of transaminases, gamma-glutamyltransferase, alkaline phosphatase and the level of bilirubin in the blood plasma decrease. Long-term use of the drug reliably increases the percentage of survival of patients suffering from liver cirrhosis.
Toxic liver damage: for supportive treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory liver diseases or cirrhosis.
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or one of the auxiliary components.
It is not used in pediatrics until the age of 12.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is not recommended for use in the treatment of pregnant women, since no clinical studies have been carried out on this group of patients and the consequences of such a reception are unknown.
It is known that the drug itself is not toxic if taken without exceeding the recommended doses.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, then lactation should be suspended during treatment.
Method of administration and dosage
It is recommended to take 1-2 tablets of the drug three times a day (for prevention purposes – 1-2 times a day).
The drug is taken after eating, without chewing. Drink with clean water, from 100 to 200 ml.
The duration of the treatment course is not limited by the manufacturer. On average, the attending physicians recommend taking this drug daily for 1 to 3 months.
Treatment courses can be repeated in 1-2 months.
Advanced age and renal failure are not an indication for dosage adjustments.
It should be remembered that although the drug can be used in the treatment of acute states of intoxication of the body and liver, it cannot eliminate the causes that cause such liver damage.
In particular, if the patient does not stop excessive consumption of alcohol, fatty, fried, stale or spicy food, then liver damage will continue, and this drug will only eliminate the consequences of such intoxication.
At the moment, there has been no information about an overdose.
In case of overdose, theoretically, the side effects indicated in the corresponding section may increase.
No specific antidote has been identified.
In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment is recommended – gastric lavage, intake of enterosorbents, monitoring of vital signs.
The drug rarely causes side effects and is usually well tolerated.
The following side effects are possible, such as increased hypersensitivity to the substances included in the drug. Hypersensitivity symptoms:
- exanthema (in the form of a rash);
- increased diuresis (urine discharge);
- increased alopecia;
- increased disorders of the vestibular apparatus (rarely);
- diarrhea, flatulence, heartburn.
If the patient has unusual side effects not described in this section, you should temporarily stop taking the drug and consult your doctor for a possible change in the treatment regimen.
