Release form, composition
The drug Sulfacil is an eye drop that is produced at the factory in the form of a transparent, colorless or slightly yellowish liquid.
1 ml of drops contains: sodium sulfacil 200 mg, as an active ingredient.
Additional substances: 1 M hydrochloric acid solution to pH 8.0, sodium thiosulfate, water for injection.
Pharmacological properties
The drug Sulfacil is intended for use in ophthalmology. Possesses bacteriostatic properties in relation to gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria (pneumococci, streptococci, gonococci, chlamydia, Escherichia coli, actinomycetes). The mechanism of action of eye drops is due to the ability to suppress and inhibit the reproduction and growth of bacteria.
Indications for use
The drug Sulfacil is used to treat infectious and inflammatory diseases of the eyes, which have caused bacteria sensitive to sulfonamides: blepharitis, conjunctivitis, purulent corneal ulcers.
Contraindications
The drug Sulfacil is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug in the anamnesis. Also, drops are not used for children under the age of 2 months.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of the drug Sulfacil is permissible only after the recommendation of a doctor, if the expected benefit to the mother is significantly higher than the potential risk to the child or fetus.
Mode of application
For adult patients, the drug Sulfacil 300 mg / ml is used in a dose of 2-3 drops 5-6 times a day with an interval of 4-5 hours into the affected eye.
For children from 2 months, the drug Sulfacil 200 mg / ml is used in a dose of 1-2 drops 4-5 times a day into the affected eye.
Usually the duration of application is 7-10 days. Depending on the severity and nature of the disease, the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually for each patient.
Overdose
An overdose can occur with frequent use of the drug, the symptoms of which are: itching, redness, swelling of the eyelids, severe irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye. In this case, treatment with a less concentrated solution of Sulfacil should be continued, if the symptoms do not disappear, it is necessary to cancel the drug and apply symptomatic treatment.
Adverse reactions
The use of Sulfacil drops can cause the manifestation of various side reactions: fungal and bacterial corneal ulcers, conjunctival hyperemia, nonspecific conjunctivitis, accession of allergic reactions and secondary infection.
The most common local reactions are irritation, burning and tingling.
In very rare cases, deaths have been recorded due to severe reactions, including toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, agranulocytosis, fulminant hepatonecrosis, aplastic anemia and other blood disorders.
Storage conditions
Store the drug Sulfacil in its original and sealed packaging, at a temperature of + 8 ° C to + 15 ° C, out of reach of children, out of direct sunlight.
The expiration date is indicated on the packaging from the manufacturer and is 24 months.
