Prevention of postoperative infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, especially after operations on the large intestine, gastrointestinal tract and after gynecological operations. Treatment. Helicobacter pylori eradication associated with duodenal ulcers – along with an antibiotic and a drug that inhibits acid production. Anaerobic infections: intraperitoneal infections (peritonitis, abscess); gynecological infections (endometritis, endomyometritis, tubo-ovarian abscess); bacterial septicemia; postoperative wound infections; skin and soft tissue infections; upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess). Nonspecific vaginitis. Acute ulcerative gingivitis. Urogenital trichomoniasis in men and women. Giardiasis. Intestinal amoebiasis. Amoebic liver damage.
Composition and form of release
The drug is available in the form of coated tablets.
The active substance is tinidazole. As auxiliary substances there are crospovidone, corn starch, magnesium stearate, coating substances.
One package contains 4 tablets of 500 mg each white.
The drug Tinidazole acts against bacteria and protozoa that have a negative effect on the body. It has the properties of eliminating these bacteria and microorganisms due to penetration into the structure of DNA and destroying it from the inside.
It also fights against Trichomonas and anaerobes.
The effect of taking the drug is already noticeable after 2 hours of ingestion. It is well absorbed by the digestive system, penetrates into various body systems, including through the placenta and into breast milk.
It is excreted completely from the body within 10-12 hours.
The medication is taken when:
- trichomonasis (in this case, both sexual partners must undergo treatment),
- hepatic and amoebic dysentery,
- infections of various etymology and localization (peritonitis, endometritis, sepsis, wounds),
- pulmonary diseases (abscesses, pneumonia, empyema),
- infectious lesions of soft tissues and skin,
- prevention of infectious lesions in the postoperative period,
- acute forms of vaginitis, gingivitis, leishmaniasis.
With a long-term course of drug treatment (more than a week), blood monitoring is required.
When undergoing a course of treatment with the drug, it is prohibited to consume alcohol throughout the course and for three days after.
Hypersensitivity to the drug or its constituents, diseases of the central nervous system, age up to 12 years.
Drinking alcohol and engaging in activities that require increased attention and a good response.
During treatment, the urine darkens.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The first trimester of pregnancy and lactation is a contraindication to the use of tinidazole.
It is conditionally forbidden to take the drug throughout pregnancy – it is prescribed only in extreme cases, when there is a real threat to the mother’s life.
After childbirth, you can take the drug if the woman is not breastfeeding, since the substance passes into breast milk and remains there for 72 hours.
Otherwise, breastfeeding will have to be interrupted.
Method of administration and dosage
Tinidazole is taken orally on the advice of a doctor.
The dosage and duration of treatment is determined depending on the disease.
Recommended doses for trichomoniasis and giardiasis:
It is taken once in the amount of 4 pieces.
Children’s dose (after 12 years) is calculated based on body weight – 50-75 mg per kilogram.
If indicated, the dose can be repeated.
The recommended doses for intestinal amebiasis are the same as for giardiasis, only the course of treatment is 2-3 days. Children are prescribed 50-60 mg of the drug per kilogram of weight for 3 days.
The recommended dose for amoebic liver abscess for adults is from 4.5 to 12 g of the drug per course. The exact dosage and duration is determined by the severity of the disease. The course usually lasts from 3 to 6 days. Children are prescribed a five-day course of treatment at a dosage of 50-60 mg per kg of body weight.
Treatment of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria is carried out according to the system of 4 tablets once, then within 5-6 days, 2 tablets once a day.
As a prophylaxis of infections in the postoperative period, a single dose of the drug is prescribed in the amount of 4 pieces 12 hours before the surgery.
The drug is usually not prescribed for children under 12 years of age. If the course of treatment lasts more than a week, monitoring of the blood test is required.
Overdose cases are not described.
Usually, when taking tinidazole, headache, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, impaired coordination of the musculoskeletal system, less often – convulsions appear.
Allergic rashes and other effects such as itching, urticaria, edema are possible.
The digestive tract reacts with nausea, decreased appetite, dry mouth, vomiting, and upset.
Transient leukopenia is possible.
Storage conditions and periods
The drug is stored in a dry, dark place at a temperature of 15 to 5 degrees Celsius.
Subject to the storage conditions, the drug is suitable for three years.
