Description

Composition and form of release
Trichopol is based on metronidazole. It is available as vaginal and oral tablets.
Indications
Trichopol is prescribed for the treatment of:

  • gastric ulcers and gastritis caused by Helicobacter pylori;
  • trichomoniasis infection;
  • giardiasis;
  • amebiasis;
  • vaginitis, which is caused by pathogenic microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole;
  • surgical infections provoked by metronidazole-sensitive flora;
  • other infections caused by metronidazole-sensitive bacteria.

Contraindications
Contraindications for the treatment of Trichopol:

Metronidazole intolerance, pregnancy up to twelve weeks and breastfeeding.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Trichopol is not prescribed to women if the gestation period is less than twelve weeks. If the gestation period is more than twelve weeks, treatment with the drug is carried out with great caution and only under medical supervision.
Method of application and dose
To prevent anaerobic infection, treatment begins with a single dose of 1 or 1.5 g of the drug, after which the patient receives 0.25 g three times a day. In the treatment of anaerobic infection, the patient receives 0.75 or 1.5 g per day, dividing this amount into three doses. From 6 to 12 years the daily dose is 0, 375 g.
Trichopol is taken during or after a meal. The course of treatment lasts an average of 7 days.
For the treatment of trichomoniasis, both partners need treatment. The woman receives 1 oral tablet twice a day and 10 vaginal tablets once a day for 10 days. Men in this case receive 1 tablet twice a day.
With bacterial vaginitis, the patient receives 1 g of the drug per day, divided into two doses.
In the treatment of amebiasis, the patient receives 0.5 g of the drug three times a day.
At eradication of Helicobacter pylori to patients appoint on 0,25 g twice a day.
Patients with hepatic insufficiency are prescribed the drug according to a special scheme, as the excretion of metronidazole is carried out by the liver, and any disturbances in the work of this organ can cause the accumulation of the drug and hepatic coma.
At a renal failure Trichopol is appointed in a classical dosage. Elderly patients are prescribed the drug with caution and under the obligatory supervision of a physician.
Overdose
Overdose of the drug is characterized by nausea, vomiting, convulsions and ataxia.
Side effects
When taking Trichopol may develop dyspeptic disorders, the appearance of metallic taste or dry mouth, neuropathy, dizziness and headaches, cerebellar syndrome, anemia, thrombocytopenia and agranulocytosis. Allergic rashes, itchy skin, angioneurotic edema and anaphylactic shock may also occur.
Conditions and terms of storage
Trichopol should be stored in a dry dark place for no more than three years from the date of its manufacture.
