Infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug: infections of the respiratory system and ENT organs; gastrointestinal infections; purulent infections of the skin and soft tissues; infections of the genitourinary system (gonorrhea, primary and secondary syphilis); typhus.
Composition and form of release

It is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group. It is used in the treatment of infections, in particular for infections of the ENT organs, respiratory organs, gastrointestinal tract, typhus, genitourinary system – chlamydia, urogenital mycoplasmosis, syphilis (including secondary), pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, as well as for soft tissue infections and skin, acne.
The active active ingredient of the drug doxycycline has the property of inhibiting the synthesis and disrupting the metabolic processes of proteins that are contained in the cell membrane of pathological microorganisms. It is especially active against microorganisms that are in the stage of division and growth, and inactive against their resting stage.
The action covers a wide range of microorganisms, including various types of gram-positive – streptococci, staphylococci, etc. and gram-negative, including salmonella, enterobacteria, chlamydia, spirochete.
Contraindicated in case of individual hypersensitivity to tetracyclines, other substances of the drug. Not applicable for acute liver or kidney failure. Also, it is not prescribed in the treatment of children under 8 years old.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindicated because doxycycline interferes with fetal bone formation. Breastfeeding is stopped for the period of treatment.
Method of administration and dosage
In the first days of the acute course of the disease, the drug is prescribed in a larger dosage, gradually reducing it. 1st day of treatment – 200 mg once a day or 100 mg 2 times a day. From the second day, it is enough to take 100 mg once a day.
In severe infections, the patient takes 200 mg daily throughout the course of treatment. With gonorrhea, treatment according to this scheme lasts 5 days. Perhaps the appointment of 300 mg for 2-4 days. Treatment of syphilis, regardless of the stage – 300 mg per day for 10 days.
Typhoid fever can be cured with a single dose of 200 mg per day, with a mild form or with a low weight of the patient – 100 mg is enough.
Children over the age of 8 years and weighing more than 50 kg take the drug at the rate of 4 mg per 1 kg of body weight, in the following days of treatment – 2 mg per 1 kg of body weight.
For more convenient intake by children, it is permissible to take a tablet in a crushed form, diluted in a small amount of water.
Overdose is characterized by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, headaches. A specific antidote has not yet been identified. It is necessary to wash the stomach, ensure the intake of sorbents, and prescribe the treatment of symptoms.
Taking the drug can cause reactions from the gastrointestinal tract, dysphalgia, glossitis, enterocolitis. Candidiasis may develop. The reactions of the hematopoietic system are possible, namely, the manifestation of hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, eosonophilia, and a decrease in the prothrombin index. The skin is able to react with a rash, erythema. In rare cases, an allergic reaction occurs, including urticaria, lupus, pericarditis.
