Urofuragyn Composition and form of release
Main active ingredient: furagin.
The auxiliary components included in the composition: corn starch, sucrose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid.
The drug is created in the form of tablets, 50 mg of furagin in 1 tablet.
This drug belongs to the group of antiseptic drugs and other drugs that are usually used systemically in the treatment of urological diseases, in particular – inflammation of the urinary tract.
The main active ingredient is furagin.
It is an antibacterial drug with a wide range of effects, active against pathological microorganisms of both gram-negative and gram-positive series. These include such common strains as staphylococci and other microorganisms that are sensitive to antibacterials and other pharmaceuticals.
The antibacterial effect is due to the ability of the main active ingredient to suppress the enzyme system of bacterial microorganisms.
Resistance to furagin develops more slowly than to sulfa drugs and antibiotics.
When exposed to mucous membranes, it does not cause local irritating effects.
This drug is used to treat inflammatory processes of the urinary tract – cystitis, urethritis.
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Also contraindicated for:
- renal and hepatic failure;
- patients on hemodialysis, peritoneal hemodialysis;
- polyneuropathy, including diabetic;
- at risk of developing hemolysis;
If used in combination with other antibacterial agents, it is able to exhibit pronounced synergy.
Alcohol should not be used during treatment with this drug, as this may increase the likelihood of developing allergic reactions.
Not used in pediatrics.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is contraindicated in pregnant women.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.
Urofuragyn Method of administration and dosage
This drug is used systemically.
The recommended dose is 100 mg (2 tablets) 3 times a day.
It is advisable to take the drug with meals. Moreover, if possible, food should contain proteins, since this trace element is able to increase the bioavailability of nitrofuran derivatives.
The duration of the course of treatment is 5-10 days. If necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated after 2 weeks.
The patient should consult a doctor if the symptoms of the disease did not disappear during the use of the medicinal product or if adverse reactions are observed that are not indicated in the instructions for medical use of the medicinal product.
Overdose can cause increased side effects, especially in patients with renal insufficiency.
- headache, dizziness;
- allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting;
- anemia, ataxia, tremor;
- symptoms of a neurotoxic nature.
If swallowed in large quantities, induce vomiting, take sorbents, monitor the state of the liver and kidneys.
In case of severe overdose, hemodialysis is effective.
The drug is usually well tolerated when used in the recommended doses.
Minor side effects may occur in the event of a hypersensitivity reaction. In particular, there may be observed:
- allergic reactions – anaphylactic shock, dermatoses;
- skin rash, allergic urticaria;
- nausea, headache;
- increased flatulence;
- dizziness, drowsiness;
- visual impairment, peripheral neuropathy;
- renal failure;
- diabetes mellitus, pancreatitis, colitis;
- electrolyte imbalance.
Storage conditions and periods
Shelf life is 4 years.
