Infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin: infections of ENT organs (bacterial pharyngitis / tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media); respiratory tract infections (bacterial bronchitis, non-hospital pneumonia); skin and soft tissue infections: migratory erythema (initial Lyme disease), erysipelas, impetigo, secondary pyodermatoses. Treatment of non-severe forms of Acne vulgaris; sexually transmitted infections: uncomplicated and complicated urethritis / cervicitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
Composition and form of release
Active substance: azithromycin.
Ziomycin is available in the form of tablets (500 mg).
Ziomycin is used in infectious processes provoked by microbes sensitive to this antibiotic:
- infections of the skin, soft tissues (erysipelas, infected dermatosis, acne, impetigo);
- borreliosis (Lyme disease) at the initial stage – migrating erythema;
- ENT infections (laryngitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis, rhinitis, tracheitis);
- urogenital infections, including chlamydial.
Do not take Ziomycin:
- with severe impairment (insufficiency) of the kidneys and / or liver;
- in case of allergy to macrolide antibiotics;
- when taking certain drugs (ergotamine, dihydroergotamine);
- children weighing up to 45 kg.
Ziomycin is used with caution in Q-T prolongation (ECG), predisposition to arrhythmia, moderate renal / hepatic dysfunction.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy, this drug can be prescribed only when the need for treatment of the woman exceeds the risk to the child (according to the doctor).
This antibiotic is excreted in milk, so it is not used during breastfeeding.
Method of application and dose
Ziomycin tablet should be swallowed whole, washed down with water.
The required dose should be taken once a day – 2 hours after or an hour before a meal.
The standard dose for an adult (including the elderly) is 500 mg / day for 3 days.
At erythema migrans (migrating erythema) appoint 1000 mg on the 1st day, from the 2nd to the 5th day – 500 mg daily. For acne vulgaris (common acne) apply 500 mg / day for three days, then – 500 mg / day once a week for 9 weeks.
In chlamydial infection (Chlamidia trachomatis), 1000 mg is usually prescribed once.
Adult doses are prescribed to children weighing more than 45 kg.
Symptoms of overdose: frequent and / or loose stools, vomiting, hearing loss.
Treatment: gastric lavage with a probe, taking enterosorbents, symptomatic therapy.
Changes in laboratory parameters: thrombocytopenia (decreased platelet count), neutropenia (decreased neutrophil count), changes in liver samples.
Neurological disorders: convulsions, vertigo (dizziness), cephalgia (headache), drowsiness, paresthesia (tingling sensation, tingling, burning sensation on the skin), feeling powerless, insomnia, aggression, increased physical activity, anxiety, nervousness.
Perception disorders: deafness, reversible hearing impairment, odor / taste perception impairment, tinnitus.
Cardiovascular disorders: arrhythmias (palpitations, arrhythmia, Q-T interval widening, ventricular tachycardia).
Digestive disorders: stool changes (constipation, diarrhea), flatulence (bloating), nausea, anorexia, discoloration of the tongue, abdominal cramps / pain, pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the colon), impaired bile flow (cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis) , liver failure.
Disorders of the motor system: joint pain.
Allergic reactions: rash, photosensitization (sun intolerance), urticaria, angioneurotic edema (swelling of the face, tongue, lips with respiratory distress), erythema multiforme, anaphylactic shock, itching, contact dermatitis.
Disorders of the genitourinary system: acute renal failure, nephritis (inflammation of the kidney tissue).
Other: vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina), candidiasis (fungal infection).
